We descended from Delphi to the coast for a lunch stop in Nafpaktos on the Gulf of Corinth.

Our marine-inclined family was happy to be back at sea level.

There are no pictures from the walk up. We passed through cobblestoned neighborhoods with whitewashed houses and vibrant gardens. There were cars inexplicably parked in driveways, though the streets seemed barely wide enough for a horse and cart. There was much grumbling and dissent among the ranks, but we made it and could enjoy THIS view of the city, the gulf and the Rion-Antirion Bridge.

Our wan smiles reveal displeasure at the walk, and also the fact that as we approached the castle entrance, we learned they had just closed for the day. Before they locked up, we were told we could take some quick pictures. The Rion-Antirion Bridge is in the background.

The Rion-Antirion Bridge is the world's longest cable-stayed suspension bridge. It is considered an engineering marvel because of its span, its placement in a region with high seismicity, the soft and shifting sea floor, and significant wind velocity.

We entered on the Antirion side as we left Central Greece for the Peleponnese portion of our trip.
